When pain ceases to be a warning system and becomes the problem itself it is time for a more integrated approach. Ongoing pain may cause a wide range of other problems in your life, including problems with friends and loved ones, feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression, insomnia, fear of activity and a whole myriad of other issues.
From 1 December 2016, a new ACC funded pain management service has been launched across New Zealand. This provides a single pain management service for clients at risk of, or suffering from persistent pain.
Pure Healthcare have been selected to be part of this new initiative by the Habitat Group who have been contracted by ACC to provide this service in all areas of the North Island.
Pain management is about finding ways for you to reduce the impact your pain has on your daily life. Often the best way to manage pain is to use a range of different techniques. So as well as using medicine or simple exercises to reduce your pain, pain management is also about looking at your overall health and wellbeing and finding the right mix of strategies to help you live with your pain.
The new service focuses on providing comprehensive pain management support and education across the full spectrum of health care. Clients will receive a comprehensive ACC funded service which may include:
- Pain Specialists
- Occupational Medicine Specialists
- Musculoskeletal Specialists
- Occupational Therapists
- Social Workers
- Dieticians and
- Registered Nurses
The type and length of pain management service you receive will depend on your individual needs.
